Hadith #546
Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ فُضَيْلٍ عَنْ عَطَاءٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ
قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مَنْ كَانَ يُقْرِئُنَا مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُمْ كَانُوا يَقْتَرِئُونَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَشْرَ آيَاتٍ فَلَا يَأْخُذُونَ فِي الْعَشْرِ الْأُخْرَى حَتَّى يَعْلَمُوا مَا فِي هَذِهِ مِنْ الْعِلْمِ وَالْعَمَلِ قَالُوا فَعَلِمْنَا الْعِلْمَ وَالْعَمَلَ

English Translation
It was narrated from the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ who taught recitation that they used to learn ten verses from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and would not move on to the next ten until they had learned the knowledge and action contained in those ten. They said: 'So we learned both knowledge and action.'
