Hadith #199

قَالَ وَكَانَ يُعَلِّمُنَا هَذَا الدُّعَاءَ اللَّهُمَّ اهْدِنِي فِيمَنْ هَدَيْتَ وَعَافِنِي فِيمَنْ عَافَيْتَ وَتَوَلَّنِي فِيمَنْ تَوَلَّيْتَ وَبَارِكْ لِي فِيمَا أَعْطَيْتَ وَقِنِي شَرَّ مَا قَضَيْتَ إِنَّكَ تَقْضِي وَلَا يُقْضَى عَلَيْكَ إِنَّهُ لَا يَذِلُّ مَنْ وَالَيْتَ قَالَ شُعْبَةُ وَأَظُنُّهُ قَدْ قَالَ هَذِهِ أَيْضًا تَبَارَكْتَ رَبَّنَا وَتَعَال
َيْتَ قَالَ شُعْبَةُ وَقَدْ حَدَّثَنِي مَنْ سَمِعَ هَذَا مِنْهُ ثُمَّ إِنِّي سَمِعْتُهُ حَدَّثَ بِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ مَخْرَجَهُ إِلَى الْمَهْدِيِّ بَعْدَ مَوْتِ أَبِيهِ فَلَمْ يَشُكَّ فِي تَبَارَكْتَ وَتَعَالَيْتَ فَقُلْتُ لِشُعْبَةَ إِنَّكَ تَشُكُّ فِيهِ فَقَالَ لَيْسَ فِيهِ شَكٌّ
English Translation
He [al-Hasan ibn 'Ali] also used to teach us this supplication: 'O Allah, guide me among those You have guided. Grant me well-being among those You have granted well-being. Take me into Your care among those You have taken into Your care. Bless me in what You have given me. Protect me from the evil of what You have decreed. You decree and none can decree against You. Verily, none is humiliated whom You befriend.' Shu'bah said: And I think he also said: 'Blessed are You, our Lord, and Exalted.' Shu'bah said: Someone who heard this from him narrated it to me. Then I myself heard him narrate this hadith on his way out to al-Mahdi, after his father's death, and he did not doubt about 'Blessed are You and Exalted.' I said to Shu'bah: You used to doubt about it. He said: There is no doubt about it.
