English Translation
'Abd al-Razzaq narrated to us, Ma'mar narrated to us, from al-Zuhri, Kathir ibn 'Abbas ibn 'Abd al-Muttalib informed me, from his father al-'Abbas (رضي الله عنه), who said: I was present with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at Hunayn. I saw the Prophet ﷺ and no one was with him except myself and Abu Sufyan ibn al-Harith ibn 'Abd al-Muttalib. We stayed close to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and did not leave him. He was on a white mule, and sometimes Ma'mar said 'a light-colored mule,' which Farwah ibn Na'amah al-Judhami had given him. When the Muslims and the disbelievers met, the Muslims turned and fled. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ began spurring his mule toward the disbelievers. Al-'Abbas said: I was holding the bridle of the mule of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, restraining it, while he was striving to charge toward the polytheists. Abu Sufyan ibn al-Harith was holding the stirrup of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'O 'Abbas, call out: O Companions of the Samurah [the tree under which they gave the pledge]!' I was a man with a loud voice, so I called out at the top of my voice: 'Where are the Companions of the Samurah?' By Allah, when they heard my voice, their turning back was like the turning of a cow toward her calves. They said: 'At your service! At your service!' The Muslims came back and fought the disbelievers. Then the Ansar called out, saying: 'O gathering of the Ansar!' Then the callers narrowed it down to Banu al-Harith ibn al-Khazraj, calling: 'O Banu al-Harith ibn al-Khazraj!' the Messenger of Allah ﷺ looked, while on his mule, stretching himself up on it to see their fighting, and said: 'This is when the oven has become hot!' Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ took pebbles and threw them at the faces of the disbelievers, then said: 'They are routed, by the Lord of the Ka'bah! They are routed, by the Lord of the Ka'bah!' I looked and the fighting appeared to me to be in the same state. But by Allah, it was only when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ threw his pebbles that I saw their edge blunted and their affair retreating, until Allah routed them. It was as though I could see the Prophet ﷺ riding his mule behind them in pursuit.
