English Translation

Isma'il narrated from Hisham, who said: Yahya ibn Abi Kathir wrote to me narrating from 'Ikrimah that 'Umar (رضي الله عنه) used to say regarding (a man saying to his wife) 'You are haram to me': 'It is an oath that requires expiation.' Hisham said: And Yahya wrote to me narrating from Ya'la ibn Hakim, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, that Ibn 'Abbas (رضي الله عنهما) used to say regarding (saying) 'haram': 'It is an oath that requires expiation.' And Ibn 'Abbas said: {There has certainly been for you in the Messenger of Allah ﷺ an excellent example} [33:21].
