English Translation

Yahya (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that i heard al-A'mash, Muslim narrated to me, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas (رضي الله عنهما): A woman said: 'O Messenger of Allah, my mother owed a month of fasting and she died. Shall I fast on her behalf?' He said: 'If your mother had a debt, would you pay it off?' She said: 'Yes.' He said: 'Then the debt owed to Allah (عز وجل) is more deserving of being fulfilled.'
