English Translation

Yazid narrated from Ibn Abi Dhi'b, from Sa'id ibn Khalid, from Isma'il ibn 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Dhu'ayb, from 'Ata' ibn Yasar, from Ibn 'Abbas (رضي الله عنهما): the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out to them while they were sitting and said: 'Shall I not tell you about the best of people in standing?' They said: 'Yes, O Messenger of Allah.' He said: 'A man holding the reins of his horse in the path of Allah until he dies or is killed. Shall I tell you about the one who comes next?' They said: 'Yes, O Messenger of Allah.' He said: 'A person secluded in a mountain pass, establishing prayer, paying zakat, and staying away from the evils of people. Shall I tell you about the worst of people in standing?' They said: 'Yes, O Messenger of Allah.' He said: 'The one who is asked by Allah (i.e., someone invokes Allah's name when asking him) and does not give.'
