حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ كَانَ الْجِنُّ يَسْمَعُونَ الْوَحْيَ فَيَسْتَمِعُونَ الْكَلِمَةَ فَيَزِيدُونَ فِيهَا عَشْرًا فَيَكُونُ مَا سَمِعُوا حَقًّا وَمَا زَادُوهُ بَاطِلًا وَكَانَتْ النُّجُومُ لَا يُرْمَى بِهَا قَبْلَ ذَلِكَ فَلَمَّا بُعِثَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ أَحَدُهُمْ لَا يَأْت
ِي مَقْعَدَهُ إِلَّا رُمِيَ بِشِهَابٍ يُحْرِقُ مَا أَصَابَ فَشَكَوْا ذَلِكَ إِلَى إِبْلِيسَ فَقَالَ مَا هَذَا إِلَّا مِنْ أَمْرٍ قَدْ حَدَثَ فَبَثَّ جُنُودَهُ فَإِذَا هُمْ بِالنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي بَيْنَ جَبَلَيْ نَخْلَةَ فَأَتَوْهُ فَأَخْبَرُوهُ فَقَالَ هَذَا الْحَدَثُ الَّذِي حَدَثَ فِي الْأَرْضِ

English Translation
Abu Ahmad narrated to us, Isra'il narrated to us, from Abu Ishaq, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas (رضي الله عنهما) who said: The jinn used to listen to the revelation, and they would hear a word and add ten more to it. The word they heard would be true, but what they added would be false. Then when the Prophet ﷺ was sent, they were prevented from their listening posts. So they mentioned that to Iblis, and he said: 'This must be something that has happened.' So he sent them out, and they found the Prophet ﷺ praying between the two mountains of Makkah.
