English Translation
Aswad narrated to us, al-Hasan, meaning Ibn Salih, narrated to us, from his father, from Salamah ibn Kuhayl, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas (رضي الله عنهما) who said: 'Umar came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I have been destroyed.' He ﷺ said: 'What has destroyed you?' He said: 'I changed the direction of my mount last night' — meaning he had intercourse with his wife from behind while she was facing away. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not respond. Then Allah عز وجل revealed: 'Your wives are a tilth for you, so go to your tilth however you wish' [al-Baqarah 2:223] — meaning from in front or behind, as long as it is in the vagina, avoiding the anus.
