Thabit ibn al-Dahhak al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) was a Companion of the Prophet ﷺ who gave his pledge of allegiance under the tree at Hudaybiyyah, placing him among those mentioned with Allah's pleasure in Surah al-Fath. He narrated a number of hadiths from the Prophet ﷺ on topics including the prohibition of false oaths, the rules regarding vows made in anger, and various aspects of Islamic ethics and conduct. He is known for a narration preserved in the Sahih collections regarding the prohibition of making a vow by other than Allah and on the consequences of false praise. He settled in Medina after the Prophet's death and narrated to the Tabi'in scholars who visited him. He is considered a reliable Companion narrator and his reports are preserved in Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, and the Sunan collections. He passed away in Medina in the early years after the Prophet's passing.
