Ubayy ibn Ka'b al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him), also written as Ubai ibn Ka'b, was the foremost Companion in Quranic recitation and one of the most distinguished narrators of prophetic knowledge. The Prophet ﷺ singled him out as the best reciter of the Quran among the Companions: 'The best reader of my ummah is Ubayy ibn Ka'b.' He was also one of the official scribes of the Quranic revelation and helped preserve the text during the Prophet's lifetime. The Prophet ﷺ recited the entire Quran to Ubayy and told him that Allah had named him specifically in a divine address — an extraordinary honor. He served as the imam of Tarawih prayer in Medina during the era of Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), unifying the congregation under a single imam. His narrations on the virtues of specific Surahs, the proper recitation of the Quran, and Islamic worship are preserved throughout the major collections. He passed away around 19–32 AH. This entry is a variant romanization of Ubayy ibn Ka'b.
