Abu Talhah al-Ansari, may Allah be pleased with him, whose full name was Zayd ibn Sahl ibn al-Aswad al-Khazraji, was one of the greatest companions from the Ansar of Medina. He was known as the finest archer among the Ansar and one of the most courageous of the companions. At the Battle of Uhud, when the Muslim lines broke and the Prophet ﷺ was endangered, Abu Talhah stood in front of the Prophet ﷺ using his own chest and body as a shield, an act of selfless protection that the Prophet ﷺ honored. He was among the wealthiest of the Ansar and owned the finest garden in Medina, Bayraha' — a garden so beloved to him that the Prophet ﷺ himself would enter it to drink its fresh water. When the verse was revealed commanding believers to spend of what they love, Abu Talhah came to the Prophet ﷺ and donated Bayraha' entirely. He participated in nearly every major battle and continued in military expeditions into old age. His narrations from the Prophet ﷺ appear in Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, and other major collections. He died around 34–51 AH.
