Abu Tha'labah al-Khushani, may Allah be pleased with him, was a companion of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ from the tribe of Khushain, a subtribe of Quda'ah. His actual name is variously recorded as Jurhum ibn Nashib, Abu Tha'labah being his kunya (teknonym). He pledged allegiance to the Prophet ﷺ and became a devoted companion, transmitting a number of hadiths on religious practice. He participated in the treaty of Hudaybiyyah and other campaigns alongside the Prophet ﷺ. He is particularly known for his narrations on the permissibility of hunting with trained dogs and for hadiths on Islamic dietary law, including the ruling on using vessels owned by non-Muslims. His direct questions to the Prophet ﷺ about hunting practices and their resulting answers represent important legal precedents in classical Islamic jurisprudence. His narrations appear in Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, the Sunan of Abu Dawud, al-Tirmidhi, al-Nasai, and Ibn Majah. He settled in Syria after the Prophet's death and continued to transmit prophetic knowledge there.
