الأحنف بن قيس
al-Dahhak ibn Qays, known as al-Ahnaf ibn Qays al-Tamimi al-Basri (died approximately 67 AH), was one of the most respected leaders among the Tabi'un. He met and spoke with the Prophet ﷺ as a child, making him a junior companion or senior Tabi'i depending on the account. He led the tribe of Banu Sa'd in Basra and participated in the Muslim conquest of Persia. He is universally cited in Arabic literature as the supreme example of hilm (forbearance/clemency) — the ability to overlook insults and maintain composure. His sayings on wisdom and leadership are preserved in classical Arabic literature.
