al-Qabisi

Abu al-Hasan Ali ibn Muhammad ibn Khalaf al-Qabisi al-Qayrawani was the leading Maliki scholar of Qayrawan (Tunisia) and one of the most influential scholars in Islamic educational theory. His al-Risalah al-Mufassalah (the Detailed Treatise) on education is the earliest and most comprehensive classical text on Islamic primary education (kuttab) — covering the proper way to teach children, the Quran curriculum, moral education, and teacher conduct. He also wrote on Maliki fiqh, hadith, and aqeedah. He died in Qayrawan in 403 AH.
