al-Sam'ani

Abu Sa'd Abd al-Karim ibn Muhammad al-Sam'ani al-Marwazi was a Khorasan scholar known for his genealogical and biographical encyclopedias. His most important work, al-Ansab (Genealogies), is a comprehensive dictionary organized by the family names (nisba) of Islamic scholars and transmitters, providing crucial biographical information about thousands of individuals. He also authored Tarikh Marw about the scholars of Merv.
