Abu Amr Amir ibn Sharahil al-Sha'bi al-Kufi (17–103 AH) was the leading scholar of Kufa among the Tabi'un and one of the most important scholars of the second generation. He met and narrated from over 500 companions of the Prophet ﷺ. He was renowned for his extraordinary memory, said to have never reviewed a book twice. He was knowledgeable in fiqh, hadith, history, genealogy, and Arabic poetry. Caliph Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan employed him as an envoy to Byzantine Emperor Justinian II due to his brilliance. Ibrahim al-Nakha'i and al-Hasan al-Basri were his contemporaries. He taught Abu Hanifah among others.
