Nur al-Din Abu al-Hasan Ali ibn Sultan Muhammad al-Qari al-Harawi al-Makki (930-1014H / 1524-1606 CE), known as Mulla Ali al-Qari, was a prolific Hanafi scholar originally from Herat who settled in Makkah and died there. He wrote over 100 works across Quranic recitation, hadith, fiqh, aqeedah, and language. His most important work is Mirqat al-Mafatih, an eight-volume commentary on Mishkat al-Masabih. He also wrote Sharh al-Fiqh al-Akbar (commentary on Abu Hanifah's theological tract), al-Asrar al-Marfu'ah (on fabricated hadiths), and Jam' al-Wasa'il. He was a calligrapher who funded his studies by writing Qurans.
