Amr ibn Shu'ayb narrated on the authority of his father Shu'ayb ibn Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-As, who narrated from his grandfather Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-As (RA), the companion of the Prophet ﷺ. This chain — known in hadith terminology as 'Amr from his father from his grandfather' — is one of the most discussed chains in the science of hadith criticism. The majority of leading scholars including Ahmad ibn Hanbal, Yahya ibn Ma'in, and al-Tirmidhi accepted it as reliable. The narrations through this chain appear in Abu Dawud's Sunan and contain important legal rulings on inheritance, family law, trade, and proper conduct. The chain's reliability rests ultimately on the companion Abdullah ibn Amr, who was one of the first systematic recorders of hadith and one of the most prolific companion narrators.
