Alqama ibn Qays al-Nakha'i was one of the most eminent Tabi'i jurists of Kufa and the devoted companion of Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him). His mastery of Ibn Mas'ud's legal positions, Quranic knowledge, and narrations made him the foremost authority in Kufa on the Kufan scholarly tradition after the Companions departed. He accompanied Ibn Mas'ud on at least one Hajj pilgrimage and memorized his practice of the rites in such detail that his account became a primary reference for Hajj rulings in the Kufan school. He was also a narrator from Uthman ibn Affan, Aisha, and Abu Mas'ud al-Ansari. Ibrahim al-Nakha'i — the teacher of Imam Abu Hanifa's teacher — considered Alqama the most reliable authority after Ibn Mas'ud himself. His narrations appear in Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, and the major Sunan. He passed away around 61–62 AH in Kufa. This entry is a variant form of the narrator also listed as Alqamah.
