Hafs ibn Sulayman

Hafs ibn Sulayman ibn al-Mughirah al-Asadi al-Kufi (90-180H) was the stepson and primary student of Asim ibn Abi al-Najud. He transmitted Asim's recitation with such precision and authority that the chain Hafs 'an Asim became the global standard. While early hadith scholars were cautious about his reliability as a hadith narrator, his mastery of Quranic recitation was never questioned. The mushaf distributed by the Saudi government and used across the Muslim world follows Hafs 'an Asim. Every Muslim who recites the Quran from a standard printed copy is, in a sense, following his transmission.
