Hudhayfa ibn al-Yaman al-Absi al-Ansari (d. 36H) was one of the most trusted companions of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. The Prophet entrusted him with the names of the hypocrites (munafiqun) of Madinah โ a secret he never revealed in full. He is also extensively cited in hadith about the trials (fitan) and signs of the Last Hour. He served as governor of al-Mada'in (Ctesiphon) under Umar ibn al-Khattab. He is reported to have asked the Prophet: 'We were in ignorance and evil, then Allah brought us this goodness. Will there be evil after this good?' โ leading to an extended exchange about future tribulations.
