كعب بن زهير
Ka'b ibn Zuhayr ibn Abi Sulma (died approximately 26 AH) was a pre-Islamic Arab poet who eventually converted to Islam. He was initially hostile to the Prophet ﷺ and wrote poetry mocking him. Later, when he feared execution, he came to the Prophet ﷺ and recited his famous ode Banat Su'ad (Su'ad has departed), praising the Prophet ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ was so pleased that he draped his mantle (burda) over Ka'b's shoulders. This poem, known as al-Burda (the Mantle), became one of the most celebrated poems in Arabic literature and sparked a tradition of prophetic panegyric poetry that continues to this day.
