Karimah al-Marwaziyyah

Karimah bint Ahmad al-Marwaziyyah (d. 463H) was the foremost female hadith scholar of the 5th century of Islam and the most authoritative transmitter of Sahih al-Bukhari in her time. She received a continuous chain of transmission for Sahih al-Bukhari going back to al-Kushmayhani (a student of al-Firabri, who was a direct student of al-Bukhari). Al-Khatib al-Baghdadi and al-Khatib al-Tibrizi and other major scholars traveled to Makkah to hear Sahih al-Bukhari from her. She lived well past 100 years. Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani praised her chain as the highest (a'la) available for Sahih al-Bukhari.
