رقية بنت محمد
Ruqayyah bint Muhammad was the second daughter of Prophet Muhammad and Khadijah bint Khuwaylid. She was initially betrothed to Utbah ibn Abi Lahab before the Prophet's mission. When Surah al-Masad (111) was revealed, Abu Lahab ordered his son to divorce her. This freed her to marry Uthman ibn Affan, who would later become the third caliph. Ruqayyah and Uthman were among the earliest Muslims and were among the first to emigrate to Abyssinia (Habasha) in the first hijra, seeking refuge from Meccan persecution under the Christian king Najashi. They later returned to Makkah and then emigrated to Madinah. Ruqayyah fell ill during the period of the Battle of Badr, and Uthman stayed behind to care for her at the Prophet's instruction. She died while the Muslims were still at Badr, and the Prophet received the news of victory alongside the news of his daughter's death. She was buried in al-Baqi cemetery in Madinah.
