صفورة زوجة موسى
Safura was the daughter of Prophet Shuayb AS (identified in Islamic tradition with Jethro of the Biblical account) and became the wife of Prophet Musa AS. Their story is narrated in Surah al-Qasas (28:22-28). Musa AS had fled Egypt after accidentally killing an Egyptian man while defending an Israelite. He traveled alone to Madyan, arriving exhausted and penniless. At the well of Madyan, he helped two young women who were waiting for the crowd to disperse before drawing water for their flock — demonstrating his chivalry even in his lowest moment. Those two women were the daughters of a righteous old man, Prophet Shuayb AS. After reporting Musa's kindness to their father, one of the daughters — described in the Quran as walking with modesty — came back to invite Musa to meet her father. Shuayb AS heard Musa's story and reassured him: 'Fear not. You have escaped from the wrongdoing people.' One of his daughters then made a direct and dignified recommendation to her father: 'O my father, hire him. Indeed, the best one you can hire is the strong and the trustworthy' (Surah al-Qasas 28:26). Shuayb offered Musa a marriage contract: he would give one of his daughters in marriage in exchange for Musa working for him for eight to ten years. Musa accepted. Safura is identified in Islamic tradition as the daughter Musa married. She accompanied Musa when he later departed for Egypt to fulfill his prophetic mission, and the Quran narrates a difficult night journey during which she was with him when the fire appeared on the mountain — the moment of Musa's first revelation.
