Sahl ibn Sa'd al-Sa'idi (RA) was from the Ansar of Medina, from the tribe of Banu Sa'ida of the Khazraj. He was born shortly before the Hijra and accompanied the Prophet ﷺ from his earliest years of awareness. His long life — he reportedly lived to over ninety years and died around 88–91 AH — made him one of the last surviving companions in Medina. This extraordinary longevity gave him an irreplaceable role: Tabi'i scholars who had never met the Prophet ﷺ could still receive direct narrations from a man who had seen and served him. He narrated approximately 188 hadiths on the Prophet's worship, character, miracles, and daily conduct. He was known for his reliability and his deep attachment to Medina, which he reportedly never left. His student Hazim ibn Abi Hazim was among those who transmitted his narrations to later generations. He is cited throughout all the major hadith collections.
