Sa'id ibn al-Musayyab ibn Hazn al-Makhzumi al-Qurashi was the foremost jurist of the Tabi'i generation and is universally regarded as the most learned of the Seven Jurists of Medina. His father and grandfather were both companions of the Prophet ﷺ. He learned hadith primarily from Abu Huraira (RA) — whose daughter he married — and also from Umar, Uthman, Ali, Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas, and Aisha (may Allah be pleased with them). He was distinguished above all others of his generation for the breadth of his legal scholarship and the depth of his piety. He consistently refused gifts from rulers and was imprisoned and flogged for refusing to pledge allegiance to al-Walid ibn Abd al-Malik but maintained his principles throughout. He was the teacher of Imam al-Zuhri, Yahya ibn Sa'id al-Ansari, and other major scholars. He passed away around 94 AH.
