Umm Atiyya al-Ansariyyah (RA), whose full name is given as Nusayba bint al-Harith or Nusayba bint Ka'b, was a female companion of the Prophet ﷺ from the Ansar of Medina. She was one of the women who participated in military expeditions, providing medical care, tending the wounded, and preparing food. She reportedly participated in seven expeditions alongside the Prophet ﷺ. She is particularly important for her narrations on the ritual washing of deceased women, the preparation of the female body for burial, and women's religious practice more generally. Her narrations on the Prophet's instructions for preparing the body of his daughter Zainab for burial are among the most detailed and important sources in Islamic law on funerary rites. She is one of the most frequently cited female companions in the hadith literature.
