Said ibn al-Harith al-Ansari was a Tabi'i narrator from Medina who transmitted hadiths from companions of the Prophet ﷺ including Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, may Allah be pleased with him. He is primarily known for his narration from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri concerning the ruling on reciting Surah al-Fatiha in every unit of prayer — one of the most important rulings in Islamic worship — specifically the position that al-Fatiha must be recited audibly in the prayers where recitation is done aloud, even when praying behind an imam. This narration bears on one of the most discussed questions in Islamic fiqh regarding prayer behind an imam. He was regarded as a reliable transmitter by hadith scholars, and his narrations are found in Sahih al-Bukhari and the four Sunan collections. Though his individual biographical details are not extensively preserved, his role as a transmitter of key narrations from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri makes him an important link in several important chains of hadith transmission in the Medinan scholarly tradition.
