Umm al-Darda' al-Kubra

Umm al-Darda' al-Kubra (the Elder) was the first wife of the Companion Abu al-Darda' al-Ansari. She was known for her knowledge, piety, and eloquence. She is to be distinguished from Umm al-Darda' al-Sughra (the Younger, a Tabi'iyyah scholar who was Abu al-Darda's second wife after the first's death and who was the more famous scholar). The elder Umm al-Darda' is mentioned in early biographical works as a woman of knowledge and virtue. She died before or shortly after the Prophet ﷺ.
