Yusha ibn Nun (Joshua) was the designated successor of Prophet Musa AS and is considered a prophet in Islamic tradition. He was the son of Nun, who was the son of Efraim, who was the son of Prophet Yusuf AS โ making him a descendant of the prophetic line. He served as Musa's closest companion and assistant in the later years of Musa's life, described in the Quran as the young man (fata) who accompanied Musa on his journey to meet al-Khidr (Surah al-Kahf 18:60). After the death of Musa AS at the edge of the promised land โ which Musa could see but was not permitted to enter โ Yusha assumed leadership of the Israelites. He is credited with leading the Israelites across the Jordan River and into Canaan (the Holy Land), fulfilling the command Allah had given to Musa. Islamic tradition narrates that during one of his battles for the Holy Land, Yusha prayed that the sun be held in the sky until the battle was concluded, and Allah granted this. The Prophet ๏ทบ mentioned Yusha when narrating that the sun was never held still for anyone before or after him except on that occasion. He established the Israelites in their land, distributed territories among the twelve tribes, and maintained the covenant with Allah until his death. He is not mentioned by name in the Quran but is referenced indirectly, and his status as a prophet is established through hadith and the consensus of Islamic scholars.
