Thabit ibn Aslam al-Bunani was a prominent Tabi'i scholar and hadith narrator from Basra. He was a devoted student of Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), spending extended time in his company and transmitting a large volume of his narrations. His closeness to Anas made him one of the most important conduits through which Anas's knowledge was preserved and passed to subsequent generations. Thabit was deeply pious and known for his intense attachment to worship — he reportedly spent much of his night in prayer and often wept in remembrance of Allah. Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal praised him as one of the most reliable narrators of Anas's hadiths, and both al-Bukhari and Muslim relied on him extensively. He also narrated from Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Layla and other senior scholars. His narrations cover prayer, the Prophet's character, supplications, and the manners of Islamic conduct. He was considered thiqa (trustworthy) by all major critics of hadith. He passed away in Basra around 127 AH. His reports are found throughout the six major collections.
