زيد بن أسلم
Zayd ibn Aslam al-'Adawi al-Madani (d. 136H) was a major scholar of Madinah in the Tabi'i generation, the son of Aslam (the freed slave of Umar ibn al-Khattab). He studied under his father, Ibn Umar, Ibn Abbas, Abu Hurayra, and other companions. Imam Malik considered him one of the reliable scholars and narrated from him extensively in the Muwatta'. He is noted for an early and independent approach to Quranic exegesis, using analogical reasoning ('aql) alongside transmitted reports — which some companions found novel. His son Abdur-Rahman ibn Zayd was also a scholar, though less reliable.
