Hadith #90
Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاق ، حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ نَافِعٍ ، عَنْ اللَّيْثِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ ، عَنْ بَكْرِ بْنِ سَوَادَةَ ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ : خَرَجَ رَجُلَانِ فِي سَفَرٍ، فَحَضَرَتْهُمَا الصَّلَاةُ، وَلَيْسَ مَعَهُمَا مَاءٌ، فَتَيَمَّمَا صَعِيدًا طَيِّبًا، فَصَلَّيَا، ثُمَّ وَجَدَا الْمَاءَ بَعْدُ ف
ِي الْوَقْتِ، فَأَعَادَ أَحَدُهُمَا الصَّلَاةَ بِوُضُوءٍ، وَلَمْ يُعِدْ الْآخَرُ ثُمَّ أَتَيَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَذَكَرَا ذَلِكَ، فَقَالَ لِلَّذِي لَمْ يُعِدْ :" أَصَبْتَ السُّنَّةَ وَأَجْزَأَتْكَ صَلَاتُكَ "، وَقَالَ لِلَّذِي تَوَضَّأَ وَأَعَادَ : " لَكَ الْأَجْرُ مَرَّتَيْنِ "

English Translation
It was narrated from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that two men set out on a journey. When the time of prayer came, they had no water. They performed tayammum with clean earth and prayed. They then found water before the prayer time had ended. One of them repeated the prayer with ablution and the other did not. They came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and mentioned this. He said to the one who had not repeated: 'You have followed the Sunnah and your prayer is sufficient.' He said to the other: 'You will have a double reward.'
