English Translation

'Affan narrated to us, Wuhayb narrated to us, 'Abdullah ibn 'Uthman ibn Khuthaym narrated to us, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas رضي الله عنهما that a man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, my mother has died and she had an unfulfilled vow of fasting a month. Shall I fast on her behalf?' He said: 'If your mother had a debt, would you pay it on her behalf?' He said: 'Yes.' He said: 'Then the debt owed to Allah is more deserving of being paid.'
