حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ أَخْبَرَنَا مَنْصُورٌ عَنِ ابْنِ سِيرِينَ أَنَّ جَنَازَةً مَرَّتْ بِالْحَسَنِ وَابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ فَقَامَ الْحَسَنُ وَلَمْ يَقُمْ ابْنُ عَ
بَّاسٍ فَقَالَ الْحَسَنُ لِابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ أَقَامَ لَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ قَامَ وَقَعَدَ

English Translation
It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas (رضي الله عنهما) — via Ibn Sirin — that a funeral passed by al-Hasan [al-Basri] and Ibn 'Abbas. Al-Hasan stood [out of respect] while Ibn 'Abbas did not stand. Al-Hasan said to Ibn 'Abbas: 'the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood for [a funeral].' Ibn 'Abbas said: 'He stood and he also sat [i.e., both practices occurred, so it is not mandatory].'
