حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ
حَرْبٍ عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ لَمَّا وُجِّهَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى الْكَعْبَةِ قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَكَيْفَ بِمَنْ مَاتَ مِنْ إِخْوَانِنَا قَبْلَ ذَلِكَ الَّذِينَ مَاتُوا وَهُمْ يُصَلُّونَ إِلَى بَيْتِ الْمَقْدِسِ فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ { وَمَا كَانَ اللَّهُ لِيُضِيعَ إِيمَانَكُمْ }

English Translation
It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas (رضي الله عنهما) — via 'Ikrimah — that when the Prophet ﷺ was turned [to face] the Ka'bah [as the new qiblah], they said: 'O Messenger of Allah, what about our brethren who died before this, who died praying toward Bayt al-Maqdis?' Then Allah (عز وجل) revealed: 'And Allah would not let your faith go to waste [2:143].'
