English Translation
It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas (رضي الله عنهما) — via 'Ata' ibn Yasar — that he said: 'The sun eclipsed, and the Prophet ﷺ prayed with the people. He stood for a very long time — about the length of Surah al-Baqarah. Then he bowed for a long time, then rose and stood for a long time — less than the first standing. Then he bowed for a long time — less than the first bow. Then he prostrated. Then he stood for a long time — less than the first standing. Then he bowed for a long time — less than the first bow. Then he stood for a long time — less than the first standing. Then he bowed for a long time — less than the first bow. Then he prostrated. He then finished, and the sun had cleared. He said: 'The sun and moon are two signs from the signs of Allah — they do not eclipse on account of anyone's death or life. When you see that, remember Allah.' They said: 'O Messenger of Allah, we saw you reach out for something in your place, then we saw you step back.' He said: 'I saw Paradise — or I was shown Paradise.' [Ishaq did not hesitate; he said: 'I saw Paradise.'] 'I reached out for a cluster of grapes, and had I taken it, you would have eaten from it for as long as the world remains. I also saw Hellfire, and I have never seen a more horrifying sight than today. I saw that most of its inhabitants were women.' They said: 'Why, O Messenger of Allah?' He said: 'Because of their ingratitude [kufr].' They said: 'Do they disbelieve in Allah (عز وجل)?' He said: 'No, but they are ungrateful to their husbands and deny [his] kindness. If you were good to one of them for her entire life, then she saw something [displeasing] from you, she would say: I have never seen any good from you.'
