English Translation
It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه) — via Hushaym, from al-'Awwam, from Muhammad ibn Abi Muhammad, from Abi 'Ubayda ibn 'Abdullah — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'No two Muslims whose three children die before reaching the age of moral responsibility [al-hinth] — except that [the children] will be a strong fortress for them against the Fire.' It was said: 'O Messenger of Allah, what if it were two?' He said: 'And even if they were two.' Abu Dharr (رضي الله عنه) said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I have not sent ahead except two.' He said: 'And even if they were two.' Then Ubayy ibn Ka'b Abu al-Mundhir — master of the Quran reciters — said: 'I have not sent ahead except one.' It was said: 'And even if it were one?' He said: 'That [reward] applies only at the time of the first blow [of grief].'
