English Translation

Rawh narrated to us, Salih narrated to us, Ibn Shihab narrated to us, from Sa'id ibn al-Musayyab, from Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه), that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent Abdullah ibn Hudhafah to lead a detachment. He became angry and said to his men: 'Has not the Prophet ﷺ commanded you to obey me?' They said: 'Yes.' He said: 'Gather firewood and light a fire.' Then he said: 'Enter it.' They looked at each other and said: 'We only fled to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ from the Fire.' When his anger subsided, the Prophet ﷺ was informed. He said: 'Had they entered it, they would never have come out. Obedience is only in what is right.'
