حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ بْنِ ثَوْبَانَ أَنَّ أَبَا سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيَّ قَالَ بَعَثَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلْقَمَةَ بْنَ مُجَرِّزٍ عَلَى بَعْثٍ أَنَا فِيهِمْ حَتَّى انْتَهَيْنَا إِلَى رَأْسِ غَزَاتِنَا أَوْ كُنَّا بِبَعْضِ الطَّرِيقِ أَذِنَ لِطَائِفَةٍ مِنْ الْجَيْشِ وَأَمَّرَ عَلَيْهِمْ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ حُذَافَةَ بْنِ قَيْسٍ السَّهْمِيَّ وَكَانَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ بَدْرٍ وَكَانَتْ فِيهِ دُعَابَةٌ يَعْنِي مُزَاحًا وَكُنْتُ مِمَّنْ رَجَعَ مَعَهُ فَنَزَلْنَا بِبَعْضِ الطَّرِيقِ قَالَ وَأَوْقَدَ الْقَوْمُ نَارًا لِيَصْنَعُوا عَلَيْهَا صَنِيعًا لَهُمْ أَوْ يَصْطَلُونَ قَالَ ف
َقَالَ لَهُمْ أَلَيْسَ لِي عَلَيْكُمْ السَّمْعُ وَالطَّاعَةُ قَالُوا بَلَى قَالَ فَمَا أَنَا بِآمِرِكُمْ بِشَيْءٍ إِنْ صَنَعْتُمُوهُ قَالُوا بَلَى قَالَ أَعْزِمُ عَلَيْكُمْ بِحَقِّي وَطَاعَتِي لَمَا تَوَاثَبْتُمْ فِي هَذِهِ النَّارِ فَقَامَ نَاسٌ فَتَحَجَّزُوا حَتَّى إِذَا ظَنَّ أَنَّهُمْ وَاثِبُونَ قَالَ احْبِسُوا أَنْفُسَكُمْ فَإِنَّمَا كُنْتُ أَضْحَكُ مَعَكُمْ فَذَكَرُوا ذَلِكَ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَعْدَ أَنْ قَدِمُوا فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَنْ أَمَرَكُمْ مِنْهُمْ بِمَعْصِيَةٍ فَلَا تُطِيعُوهُ

English Translation
Yazid narrated to us, Muhammad ibn 'Amr informed us, from 'Umar ibn al-Hakam ibn Thawban, that Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (رضي الله عنه) said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent 'Alqamah ibn Mujazziz at the head of a military expedition. When he was in the middle of the journey, a group of the Companions sought permission from him to take a different route, and he gave them permission and placed a man over them. That man said to them: 'Gather firewood.' When they had gathered it, he said: 'Light a fire.' When they had lit it, he said: 'Did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ not command you to obey me?' They said: 'Yes.' He said: 'Then enter it.' Some of them were about to enter it when others said: 'We only fled to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ from the Fire.' They remained in that state until his anger subsided and the fire went out. When they returned to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, they mentioned it to him. He said: 'Had they entered it, they would not have come out of it. Obedience is only in what is right.'
