English Translation

Abdur-Razzaq narrated to us, Ma'mar narrated to us, from Isma'il ibn Umayyah, from Abu Salamah ibn Abdur-Rahman, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (رضي الله عنه) who said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed i'tikaf during the first ten days of Ramadan, then he performed i'tikaf during the middle ten days. Then he raised his head [from the tent] and said: "I was performing i'tikaf during the first ten days seeking this night [Laylat al-Qadr], then I performed i'tikaf during the middle ten days. Then I was told: 'It is in the last ten days.' So whoever among you wishes to perform i'tikaf, let him do so." The people performed i'tikaf with him. He said: "I was shown an odd night. I saw myself prostrating in clay the morning after it." On the morning of the twenty-first, he stood to pray Fajr and rain fell. The masjid leaked, and I saw mud and water. When he finished the Fajr prayer, I looked at his face and it was covered with mud and water.
