Hadith #233
Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ زَيْدٍ عَنْ ثَابِتٍ عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ مُرَّ بِجِنَازَةٍ فَأَثْنَى الْقَوْمُ خَيْرًا فَقَالَ وَجَبَتْ ثُمَّ
مُرَّ بِجَنَازَةٍ أُخْرَى فَأُثْنِيَ عَلَيْهَا شَرًّا فَقَالَ وَجَبَتْ فَقَالُوا قُلْتَ لِهَذَا وَجَبَتْ وَلِهَذَا وَجَبَتْ قَالَ شَهَادَةُ الْقَوْمِ وَالْمُؤْمِنُونَ شُهَدَاءُ اللَّهِ فِي الْأَرْضِ

English Translation
Yunus ibn Muhammad narrated to us, Hammad, meaning Ibn Zayd, narrated to us, from Thabit, from Anas (رضي الله عنه) who said: A funeral passed by and the people praised the deceased. He ﷺ said: 'It is settled.' Then another funeral passed by and ill was spoken of the deceased. He ﷺ said: 'It is settled.' They said: 'You said for this one it is settled and for that one it is settled?' He ﷺ said: 'The testimony of the believers — or the community — on earth is the testimony of Allah on earth. The angels are the witnesses of Allah in the heavens.'
