Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ مُجَالِدٍ عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ رَأَيْتُ كَأَنِّي أَتَيْتُ بِكُتْلَةِ تَمْرٍ فَعَجَمْتُهَا فِي فَمِي فَوَجَدْتُ فِيهَا نَوَاةً آذَتْنِي فَلَفَظْتُهَا ثُمَّ أَخَذْتُ أُخْرَى فَعَجَمْتُهَا فَوَجَدْتُ فِيهَا نَوَاةً فَلَفَظْتُهَا ثُمَّ أَخَذْتُ أُخْرَى فَعَجَمْتُهَا فَوَجَدْتُ فِيهَا نَوَاةً فَلَفَظْتُ
هَا فَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ دَعْنِي فَلْأَعْبُرْهَا قَالَ قَالَ اعْبُرْهَا قَالَ هُوَ جَيْشُكَ الَّذِي بَعَثْتَ يَسْلَمُ وَيَغْنَمُ فَيَلْقَوْنَ رَجُلًا فَيَنْشُدُهُمْ ذِمَّتَكَ فَيَدَعُونَهُ ثُمَّ يَلْقَوْنَ رَجُلًا فَيَنْشُدُهُمْ ذِمَّتَكَ فَيَدَعُونَهُ ثُمَّ يَلْقَوْنَ رَجُلًا فَيَنْشُدُهُمْ ذِمَّتَكَ فَيَدَعُونَهُ قَالَ كَذَلِكَ قَالَ الْمَلَكُ

English Translation
'Ali ibn 'Abdullah narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us, from Mujalid, from al-Sha'bi, from Jabir ibn Abdullah (رضي الله عنهما) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'I saw (in a dream) that I was given a piece of date. I chewed it in my mouth and found a stone in it, so I spat it out. Then I chewed another and found a stone in it, so I spat it out. Then I chewed another and found a stone in it, so I spat it out.' Abu Bakr (رضي الله عنه) said: 'Let me interpret it, O Messenger of Allah.' He ﷺ said: 'Interpret it.' Abu Bakr said: 'It is the army you send — they gain spoils and return safely. They capture a man who tells them of your protection, so they release him. Then they capture another who tells them of your protection, so they release him. Then they capture another who tells them of your protection, so they release him.' He ﷺ said: 'Thus the angel said.'
