حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ زَيْدٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ أَنَّ الضَّحَّاكَ بْنَ قَيْسٍ كَتَبَ إِلَى قَيْسِ بْنِ الْهَيْثَمِ حِينَ مَاتَ يَزِيدُ بْنُ مُعَاوِيَةَ سَلَامٌ عَلَيْكَ أَمَّا بَعْدُ فَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ إِنَّ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ السَّاعَةِ فِتَنًا كَقِطَعِ اللَّيْلِ الْمُظْلِمِ فِتَنًا كَقِطَعِ الدُّخَانِ يَمُوتُ فِيهَا قَلْبُ الرَّجُلِ كَمَا يَمُوتُ بَدَنُهُ يُصْبِحُ الرَّجُلُ مُؤْمِنًا وَيُمْسِي كَافِرًا وَيُمْسِي مُؤْمِنًا وَيُصْبِحُ كَافِرًا يَبِيعُ أَقْوَامٌ خَلَاقَهُمْ وَدِينَهُمْ بِعَرَضٍ مِنْ الدُّنْيَا وَإِنَّ يَزِيدَ بْنَ مُعَاوِيَةَ قَدْ مَاتَ وَأَنْتُمْ إِخْوَانُنَا وَأَشِقَّاؤُنَا فَلَا تَسْبِقُونَا حَتَّى نَخْتَارَ لِأَنْفُسِنَا
English Translation
ʿAffān narrated to us: Ḥammād ibn Salamah narrated to us, saying: ʿAlī ibn Zayd informed us, from al-Ḥasan, that al-Ḍaḥḥāk ibn Qays wrote to Qays ibn al-Haytham when Yazīd ibn Muʿāwiyah died: 'Peace be upon you. To proceed: I heard the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ say: Between the two arms of the Hour there will be deceitful years in which the truthful will be accused of lying, the liar will be believed, the trustworthy will be betrayed, the traitor will be trusted, and the ruwaybidah will speak.' It was asked: 'What is the ruwaybidah?' He said: 'The insignificant man who speaks on public affairs.'
