Hadith #151

English Translation

ʿAffān narrated to us, he said: Wuhayb narrated to us, ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿUthmān ibn Khuthaym narrated to us, from ʿAmr ibn al-Qārī, from his father, from his grandfather ʿAmr ibn al-Qārī: The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ arrived and left Saʿd behind ill when he went out to Ḥunayn. When he returned from al-Jiʿirrānah performing ʿumrah, he entered upon Saʿd who was in pain and overwhelmed by illness. Saʿd said: O Messenger of Allāh, I have wealth and I am inherited from by distant relatives only (kalālah). Shall I bequeath all my wealth or give it in charity? He said: No. He said: Shall I bequeath two-thirds of it? He said: No. He said: Shall I bequeath half of it? He said: No. He said: Shall I bequeath one-third of it? He said: Yes, and that is much. He said: O Messenger of Allāh, shall I die in the land from which I emigrated? He said: I hope that Allāh will raise you, and by you some peoples will be harmed and others will benefit. O ʿAmr ibn al-Qārī, if Saʿd dies after me, then bury him here, toward the road to Madīnah — and he gestured with his hand like this.
