قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُؤَمَّلٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا وُهَيْبٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ قِيلَ لِعَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ يَوْمَ الْحَرّ

َةِ هَلُمَّ إِلَى ابْنِ حَنْظَلَةَ يُبَايِعُ النَّاسَ قَالَ عَلَامَ يُبَايِعُهُمْ قَالُوا عَلَى الْمَوْتِ قَالَ لَا أُبَايِعُ عَلَيْهِ أَحَدًا بَعْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ

English Translation

Muʾammal narrated to us, he said: Wuhayb narrated to us, he said: ʿAmr ibn Yaḥyā narrated to us, from his father who said: On the Day of al-Ḥarrah, it was said to ʿAbdullāh ibn Zayd: 'Come to Ibn Ḥanẓalah — he is taking pledges from the people.' He said: 'On what basis is he taking pledges?' They said: 'On death.' He said: 'I will not pledge on this to anyone after the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ.'
