English Translation

Wakīʿ narrated to us, he said: Misʿar narrated to us, from ʿAmr ibn Murrah, from a man of ʿAnazah, from Nāfiʿ ibn Jubayr ibn Muṭʿim, from his father, that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ used to say: 'Allāhu akbar kabīrā, wal-ḥamdu lillāhi kathīrā, wa subḥān Allāhi bukratan wa aṣīlā. O Allāh, I seek refuge in You from the accursed Shayṭān, from his hamz, his nafth, and his nafkh.' He said: I asked, 'What is his hamz?' He said: It mentioned something like the seizure, meaning epilepsy. I said, 'And what is his nafkh?' He said: 'Arrogance.' I said, 'And what is his nafth?' He said: '(Evil) poetry.'
