حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ زَيْدٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ أَنَّ مُعَاوِيَةَ دَخَلَ عَلَى عَائِشَةَ فَقَالَتْ لَهُ أَمَا خِفْتَ أَنْ أُقْعِدَ لَكَ رَجُلًا فَيَقْتُلَكَ فَقَالَ مَا كُنْتِ لِتَفْعَلِيهِ وَأَنَا فِي بَيْ
تِ أَمَانٍ وَقَدْ سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ يَعْنِي الْإِيمَانُ قَيْدُ الْفَتْكِ كَيْفَ أَنَا فِي الَّذِي بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَكِ وَفِي حَوَائِجِكِ قَالَتْ صَالِحٌ قَالَ فَدَعِينَا وَإِيَّاهُمْ حَتَّى نَلْقَى رَبَّنَا عَزَّ وَجَلَّ

English Translation
Muʿāwiyah narrated — via Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyab — : Muʿāwiyah entered upon ʿĀʾishah رضي الله عنها. She said to him: 'Were you not afraid that I might set a man to ambush and kill you?' He said: 'You would not do that while I am in a house of safety, and I heard the Prophet ﷺ say: Faith restrains assassination.' — How am I regarding what is between you and me and your needs? She said: 'Good.' He said: 'Then leave us and them until we meet our Lord عز وجل.'
