English Translation

Yaḥyā ibn Ādam narrated to us, Mufaḍḍal ibn Muhalhal narrated to us, from Mughīrah, from Shibāk, from al-Shaʿbī, from a man of Thaqīf, who said: "We asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ three things and he did not grant us concession. We said: 'Our land is a cold land,' and we asked him to grant us concession regarding purification, but he did not grant it. We asked him to grant us concession regarding the gourd vessel, but he did not grant us concession for it even briefly. We asked him to return Abū Bakrah to us, but he refused and said: 'He is the freed one of Allah and the freed one of His Messenger.'" Abū Bakrah had come out to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when he laid siege to al-Ṭāʾif and accepted Islam. ʿAbdullāh narrated to us, al-Warakānī narrated to us, Abū al-Aḥwaṣ informed us, from Mughīrah, from Shibāk, from al-Shaʿbī, from a man of Thaqīf, from the Prophet ﷺ — similarly.
